Something the Tea Party Should Think About

The Tea Party people are all about personal freedom and getting the government out of there lives. In my state Tea-Party wannabees (the Republican party) are against a proposed law that would require people to spay and neuter their dogs and cats. Because we don't have such a law, the taxpayers pay to euthanize over 500,000 of them that are cast-off or abandoned each year in our shelters. A law requiring people to stop accidentally on-purpose breeding their animals would at least put a dent in that number. But my Republican Assemblymember is afraid that the family of 5 wouldn't be able to breed their dog--which I guess is an American right (no pun intended). What business does a family of 5, who are probably suffering financially in this recession, have in putting more animals on the street? Most of these animals won't find homes. People are having a hard enough time feeding themselves these days, let alone a few more four-legged friends. I mean really, if we can't breed our animals indiscriminately, what is this country coming too?

The thing is, I'm surprised the Tea Party hasn't campaigned against traffic laws. Talk about government intrusion into our lives, traffic laws really limit our personal freedom on a daily basis. Don't you just hate it when you're driving on a one-way street and you miss the turn you should have taken? There's no way just to go back. You have to drive all the way around again. And what's the big deal? If no one is coming the other way, why in the world should we stop for a red light? And aren't those "No U-Turn" signs a big pain in the you-know-what?

Since the Tea Party thinks we should make do with voluntary programs to help our country, as in give the local doctor a chicken instead of getting him to fill out an insurance claim, why can't we make all traffic laws voluntary? We could have the honor system. After all, isn't personal responsibility part of the American Way? I say, get government out of traffic now!
